Song of Solomon: An Inspiring Love Story

Is the Song of Solomon relevant to us today?

Song of Solomon

The Song of Solomon is a hard book to understand because it is considered to be a series of romantic poems that are organized as a dialogue between a woman and her lover and therefore it tends to be interpreted from a natural point of view. We can get more understanding from it when we look at it from a spiritual aspect. The question is why is it important for me to understand the book of Song of Solomon? How can I apply the truths that Solomon gave us into my life?

The answer is that when I see this book as a love song between Jesus and his bride then I can use some of the thoughts and ideas to 1) build my faith in Jesus, know that he has this tremendous love for me and that I can have the same love for him. 2) We can see that we live in a time when it is possible to accomplish being a part of his bride as seen in the discourse in the second chapter of Song of Solomon. Let’s look at some examples.

Song 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. KJV

The Hebrew word for kiss is:

OT:5401 nashaq —

1)         to put together, to kiss

  • (Qal) to kiss
  • (Piel) to kiss
  • (Hiphil) to touch gently

2)         to handle, to be equipped with; (Qal) to be equipped

We can than see that it is more than just an intimate relationship but we are asking the Lord to put us together with him, to equip us with what we need to be a part of his bride. If he is  ou author than we need to look to him to write the chapters of our lives in him.

Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. KJV

Also in Chapter 1 it deals with us finding where he (Jesus feeds his flock). This should let me know that Jesus is a shepherd. So many good verses on this one but we will use Psalms 23 because it lists a lot of things that the shepherd does for us.

Ps 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. KJV

Song of Solomon 4 talks about all the things that the Lord has put into our gardens to produce a sweet smelling savor unto him.

Chapter 5 starts out discussing our having communion with Jesus but it uses the natural so that we can understand it.

Again we can see the great love that God has for his people in the Book of Song of Solomon rather it be that his banner over us is love or his chariot being paved with love.

This book lets me know that God loves me! Yes God loves me!! How exciting is that God loves us with this tremendous love. If you haven’t experience his wonderful love, please find the Lord and fall in love with him. This is why the book is so important to us today it is finding God’s love for us. Praise the Lord!
